What it does
DataShield sits on a Windows device and monitors everything leaving it at the application layer — Word, Excel, case management systems, legal research tools, client portals.
It validates that data is only going where it should: to the legitimate infrastructure of the approved application vendor. Anything else is blocked.
It does not inspect the content of files. It validates the destination.
That distinction matters, there is no privacy risk and no performance impact.

Why it matters
Most law firms and in-house teams already have Data Loss Prevention (“DLP”) tools. DLP protects against accidental data loss, such as an employee emailing the wrong file or an accidental upload. It does not protect against a deliberate attacker who has breached the perimeter and is using a trusted desktop application to steal data.
That is the gap DataShield fills. When an attacker compromises a device, they do not send an email, they weaponise the applications already running: the case management system, the document store, the research platform.
DLP does not see this. DataShield does.
